A trial against two psychologists who designed and implemented the CIA torture program under Presidents Bush and Obama, is scheduled to move forward as the psychologists failed in their latest attempts to stop the lawsuit from proceeding. The August 7th article by the ACLU notes how this case could set a new legal precedent on punishing illegal activity by the deep state as, “until now, every lawsuit trying to hold people accountable for the CIA torture program has been dismissed before reaching the merits, because the government successfully argued that letting the cases proceed would reveal state secrets. But unlike in previous cases, this time the Justice Department did not argue that the state-secrets privilege supported dismissal of the lawsuit.” Is this move a sign of the Justice Department dropping its protection of the deep state? Will we see any bigger names from the Bush and Obama administration face punishment for their involvement in the deep state torture program?
